Problem: Cardboard Dreams was relying on an AI-generated logo that customers had started calling out as such, undermining trust and making the brand blend in rather than stand out. The brand needed a logo that felt intentional and hand-crafted, while clearly reflecting its identity as a Pokémon card business.

Freelance logo designer engaged by Cardboard Dreams, a Pokémon TCG resale business, after being approached at a Pokémon TCG convention. Led the design process independently over a one-month timeline, meeting with the client on a weekly basis to translate their concepts into digital design directions and iterate through revisions to a final solution.

Branding Inspiration: Since the logo's primary use was social media (circular/square crops), the design had to work within that format while leaving room for future banner use. Sticking with the "Cardboard Dreams" name, the concept split into two motifs: cardboard for the card-game side, and dreams as a way into Pokémon iconography. Two character directions were explored: Cresselia and Minior, with the client choosing Cresselia for its stronger brand fit and a more expressive, outgoing feel over a minimal one.

The client settled on the final Cresselia design in two colorways, pink and blue, giving them flexibility across their branding. Deliverables included a short, simple brand guideline, kept minimal by design, since Cardboard Dreams is run by just two people who needed something easy to reference without adding overhead. The final logo was mocked up directly on their Instagram, their primary outlet, to confirm it worked in the context it would actually be used.
